Edit: perhaps it's not Syrphidae?

OK..i went through all 26 pages of gallery and I did find something close, however, none had a waist that slim! So what is this?

Location: Sungai Tua Recreation Forest, Selangor, Malaysia.

I rotated the image..it was a tree trunk actually

Do you have any dorsal photos where we can see the wing venation?

Good to see a dorsal shot here. (Months ago I'd bumped into the nice lateral oviposition photo on Flickr.)

This is Monoceromyia javana...for details (including links to keys, original descriptions, and more) see the comments thread below this iNat post of M. javana.

[Note: For those who prefer to assign the rank of subgenera to the traditional subtribe-level groupings within Cerioidini...this would be best be referred to as Ceriana (Monoceromyia) javana. Some might use the binomial Ceriana javana -- but that causes much confusion among many people who might misconstrue the binomial as suggesting this is a member of the subgenus Ceriana...and/or may think that Monoceromyia javana and Ceriana javana refer to separate species.]
