A hitchhiker followed me home from my recent trip to the Peruvian Amazon. Relatively well developed after spending 2 months in my head. A recently extracted human botfly larva. The rows of hooks help keep the larva firmly entrenched under the skin.![]() The strategy is basically the same as see in the video in this thread:http://www.diptera.info/forum/viewthread.php?forum_id=21&thread_id=26344. Only instead of a housefly, it is a mosquito which is caught and which acts as the vector. Edited by pbertner on 17-07-2010 14:04 |

I tried rearing it on raw hamburger meat after the extraction, but it would have none of that ![]() Portfolio - https://rainfores...ugmug.com/ http://www.flickr...37609@N08/ blog photo companion http://pbertner.w... |

Life meat is infinitely better than raw hamburger, the latter probably too dry as well. And by the looks of it, the larva is far from full-grown (at least one moulding left).
