Stratiomyid larva??
Jan Willem
Could anyone tell me if this is a stratiomyid larva? Is further identification possible?

The larva was found in a pitfall trap in "De Kaaistoep" (Tilburg; 24.vi-1.vii.2010).

It is definitaly a Stratiomyid, and it look a bit like Oxycera, but I don't have the books on this matter at hand today. What's the appr. size?, was the soil wet or dry?

Thanks Ton! I will measure the larva tonight and will try to get more information on the soil type.

Resembles what Rozkosny illustrated as Oxycera leonina.

The soil near the pitfall trap is rather sandy and dry. The larva is about 9 mm length.
@Paul: Which publication of Rozkosny are you refering to? Contributions to a Manual of Palaearctic Diptera Volume 2?

With this publication I indeed identified the larva as an Oxycera species. It does look like the drawing of O. leonina in that publication. Furthermore this is the only Oxycera species known from "De Kaaistoep" sofar. But I don't have a key to the species of this genus. At least not for the larvae. However in the key of Ben Brugge (2002) it is mentioned that O. leonina is the only species in this genus with terestrial larvae.
