Ichneumonid
Basil Crowley
Any ideas as to the id of this ichneumonid? Not particularly large: 10-15mm size range. Note orangy-brown front tibia and tarsi. Other legs mostly black, but with some brown. Front 2/3 of abdomen is red.

Photographed indoors, 19 June 2010, Oxfordshire, England

With any luck Camille will be able to give us an idea but if not then you could try it on the HymIS forum Smile There are very many similar (nearly identical) species so it is a difficult group Smile

Yeah, I hope so. I have found plenty of superficially similar species that it is clearly not. Frown

Thanks for the tip about HymIS. Smile

Yeah, if it is Cryptinae then it seems you are onto a looser there Basil - too many species & not enough keys, let alone libraries of identified photos etc. Wink

Well, if taxonomy won't give it a name, perhaps I will: It's a YANUIT (Yet Another Nameless Unidentifiable Ichneumon Thing). Wink

Shucks. Why did I even bother to photograph it? Sad

Don't worry - I have said almost exactly the same thing many times! Wink
