Hello, I saw this 4-5 mm fly in September at the end of a day. He was "grazing" on a leaf near a brook in Southern Limburg. Ben Edit : Title changed from Hybotidae into Platypezidae Edited by Ben Hamers on 21-05-2012 20:25 |

This is a platypezid fly. I am not really up-to-date with these anymore, but maybe Protoclythia rufa?

Thanks Paul, So the result of searching one hour for the identity of this animal is that I even haven't got the family right. Maybe I should make a change and start photographing cows. They are a lot easier. Ben |

Ah But once you know you stay knowing. No bull... Look at the very swollen hind metatarsal, the curl of the abdomen (like Conopidae) and the curious smoky iridescent colours (silver/red/brown) of the abdomen. Description and figures at http://delta-intk...atypez.htm Robert |
