Handsome fly in a vineyard
Chris
Hi

Found this remarkably handsome fly in a vineyard in Southern Germany, ca 600 mtrs above NN, on June 16th.

What is it?

Thx

Chris

Acidia cognata (Tephritidae). There are much more handsome representatives in this family, but in others too Grin!

Hi,
sorry for the very late answer. After further research I would now tend to say: it's Rhagoletis alternata. The wing pattern does not seem to fit for Acidia cognata.
Please correct me if I should be wrong.
Thanks
Chris

You are right, I was too fast 10 years ago awkward At that time, I relied on the identification of my fly in https://diptera.i...d_id=14356. It is the same species as yours, and meanwhile I found out that it is Rhagoletis alternata indeed. But I forgot that I transmitted the wrong identification to you...
So I support Rhagoletis alternata now! But please try to get bigger pictures that show more details, e.g. like this one: https://diptera.i...pid=287945
Regards, Sundew

No problem, Sundew.
Not only identification resources, also cameras have improved over the last 10 years...! ;-)
Greetings
Chris
