It reminds me rather of a glow-worm (Lampyris noctiluca) and was from a chalky area with plenty of snails. Martin Down in the south of England, end of August 2005. As to size, from memory it was larger than a glow-worm. |

Yes, it is the larva of Silpha tristis (Col., Silphidae). I would be glad, if you could send me one or two files (600x400) for our beetle gallery. Thanks for that. can you just do a right click of the mouse and download this image as its the size you want? Perhaps I will send you a couple of images separately, with a note on the bottom saying copyright Mike Dodd and the species name if I can work out how to do this. |
