I photographed this fly on Flores near Mt.Kelimutu in June 2011. Through another source I learned that it might be Bibionidae and maybe even Plecia sp.. Can anyone help me with a possible identification? Thanks in advance. Mark |

The wing looks like Plecia (Rs forked, one branch ending near tip of R1; M-Cu distant from R-M). I don't think you have any other similar genera. |

Pacific and Southeast Asian Plecia were keyed by Hardy (1958) (http://scholarspa...10125/7909). Species are defined by male genital characters. With a photo from the side and using known ranges you might be able to narrow the choices down to less than five species. |
