small fly with dotted abdomen oviposits in wood fungus
Sundew
Hi,
Some days ago, while examining the trunk of an old dead beech, I found a small fly that oviposited around a small wet wood fungus. It looked a bit lauxaniidish, but I may be wrong. An ID is very much appreciated!
Thanks, Sundew

Well, I saw the pictures of Leucophenga maculata in the gallery but found the colour distinctly different. Mine lacks the shiny white frons as well as the broad white shoulders (there is just a trace to be seen), and the thorax is not so dark grey. So this species seems to be very variable! A case for the gallery...
Thanks to both of you indeed.

Ah - as all (except one neutral) gallery pics pretend to show females, there is a lot of wrong labelling then Shock.
