Hi all This ethanol-preserved larva was found in a stream sample but it may well be a terrestrial from surrounding riparian vegetation. The full body shot is 34X, the tail has a tipulid-like arrangement, magnified 160X, and the retracted head magnified 86X. |

looks more like a Sciomyzidae to me, although I'm not familiar with your fauna it shows some similarity with NW-European Sciomyzidae larvae |

Thanks atylotus I saw on Google images some similar-looking larvae suggested to be sciomyzids but they're very different to the aquatic sciomyzids we commonly find find in NZ streams. Cheers |
