Last Saturday at Benasque, Huesca, Aragon, Spain. Medium Pyrenees at 1200 meters high. Habitat: very, very shade small fountain with many river trees (Fraxinus, Corylus and Betul?a above all). I readed that Tipula are imposiible without genitalia, but I think that the spotted-winged species are easier. Size: about 3'5 - 4 cm long (without wings and legs). What species can be?  Thanks  |

If it was in Britain I would say without doubt Tipula fulvipennis - clouded wings and that little black spot almost in the centre (males have grey wings, females brown). But it isn't British, so I'm not being very helpful, am I? John Bratton |

Well, at least is a guess. Can be also species as Tipula vittata? I don't know what species or Tipula could be founded in the Pyrenees... |

This one looks like could be some species in the Tipula (Platytipula) group. Here is a North America speceis Tipula (Platytipula) ultima for comparison. |
