Here you can find a fotograph of a larva, found in September 2007, on the table of a kitchen in a house somewhere in the Netherlands. Can someone help me to identify this larva? It is about 10 mm long, but I don't have more information (excuse me). I know it is difficult, but is there anybody with an idea? PS: I didn't take the picture myself and I don't know the name of the photographer. |

Please attach the image by editing your post: mind the image size, no spaces in the name, etc. See FAQ.

It's a Lepidoptera (moth) caterpillar - probably a stored products pest, possibly a pyralid. Identification of these is achieved by examining the seta (small bristles) on the body segments - not possible from this photo.

Klintersaas wote: Tony Irwin wrote:It's a Lepidoptera (moth) caterpillar - probably a stored products pest, possibly a pyralid. How can you see this? I clicked on "Here" - (first word in your first post) and up came the image on my screen. Or do you mean "How do I know it's a pyralid caterpillar?" - because of its shape, apparent size, colour, texture, context (and having seen lots of stored products caterpillars over the years).
