Empididae ID? (South Korea)--> Empis(Xanthempis) sp.
wonwoong
I want to ask ID of this Empididae. It flew to a light trap 1 hours after sunset. The light trap was conducted near deciduous forest at May 30, 2020.
I am thinking of Empis(Xantempis) sp. but not sure. Any kind of help is appreciated!

Thank you very much! It's really good to have an ID for the species level Smile

Not stercorea from Korea, subgenus is okay.

Probably an undrescribed species. The South Korean (and other Eastern Asian) species were revised here and there is only one species (sesqueta) with median vitta and paramedian short fasciae/spots. However, the shape of the paramedian fasciae/spots is different as is the shape of the genitalia.

Thanks for the link to the paper! I'll change the title to Empis(Xanthempis) sp.
I think there has to be more research conducted on Empididae in S.Korea...Though it's a diverse taxon, we only have few species listed in S. Korea yet.
