Yes, Diastata adusta or D. boreonigra. Very dark coloration speaks for boreonigra. Still, reliable distinguishing characters can be seen only in male genitalia - and this specimen seems to be female. |

I don't think boreonigra has been recorded from the British Isles yet - back to the Myrica for a male!

Thanks, all, for these comments. It keys out nicely as D. adusta in Chandler's key. D. boreonigra is not on the UK list. |

Murdo - seriously, if you have an opportunity to get a male from the site, there's no reason why boreonigra can't turn up in the north of Scotland.

I will indeed, Tony. It is a new family to me, bycatch from sweeping for an aphid (if you are allowed to admit such a thing on a Dipterists' site). I will at least be aware of them now. |
