Sochi, mid-nov, near fast river. All 3 is different flies of same size (4-5mm). Probably, all are of same species.

These and the Campsicnemus in your next message and certainly conspecific. Eye color depends in many factors (amount of flash, direction etc. and is usually not a good character). At first I tought these would belong to C. loripes, but while it can be pretty dark I haven't seen any really black-legged specimens. Also the face color isn't right (again, flash may change this). If you'll visit the site again, collect some of these flies, please

Thank you, Kahis. Promise to collect (may be New Year vacancy). This fly was in all around aquatic places. P.S. I still doubt that "blue eyes" is artefact. Everything else is quite same, I didn't found any difference in Sochi, so do not now. But two out of dosen Campsicnemus with blue eyes had same colour under sun and as well in shadow. Couldl also be gender-related. The 1st and 3rd pic is of a female with brown eyes, the 2nd is a male and the blue color is seen even in the image above, but only in the anterior part of the eye. I think you checked 2 males and 8 females (such a sex ratio is quite typical for sweep-netted Campsicnemus).

Today (after a year) I collected one of this blue eyes Campsicnemus with very dark wings. Fortunely it was male, so I think there are little doubts that it is Campsicnemus umbripennis  Nikita Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |
