Mormotomyia hirsuta rediscovered!!!
Andrzej 07 December 2010 18:57:02
It should be named as a thysanopter fly Wink or thrips-like fly Wink
rvanderweele 07 December 2010 18:45:16
Truly, Jorge, when I saw the fly at first I thought it was a sunspider!
jorgemotalmeida 07 December 2010 11:32:10
I would never expect that a fly could be so similar as a solifugid! Incredible!

I just ran a 5km with my wife. It is here now -3degr. C. The coming days temperatures will go up again.
jorgemotalmeida 03 December 2010 19:41:23
Nearly -1 ºC here in Viseu. Very atypical temperature for this region.
rvanderweele 03 December 2010 19:23:37
Daniel, I would like to add that there are many more species of other families with the characteristic, which you mention.
rvanderweele 03 December 2010 19:22:20
No, a family is not really characterized or defined by a single character. Most Sphaeroceridae have certainly the first segment of hind tarsi short and swollen, but it is one of many characteristics
daniel86 03 December 2010 18:53:50
question!... in Sphaeroceridae, the first segment of hind tarsi short, swollen, shorter than second segment, is the characteristic that it defines the family? Smile
