Recently we have had more and more posts in the forum that do not include the image but links to other pages (often flickr, but not exclusively). I understand it sometimes may be easier to do that than to sort out the exact link for the image, but I would prefer it to see the image(s) IN the thread. I certainly makes it easier to discuss what it is all about without having to switch windows all the time.
So, please, try to use the [img] tags with the link to the image rather than the [url] tags to the page with the image.
Thank you.

Do you prefer that we attach the images (store on diptera.info) or just link 'em (store on other sites)? I think it would be better if it could be stored on diptera.info, if you got the space, otherwise the thread will be rather useless if the images are removed ...

I see some don't resize images to the recommended max width of 600 pixels. Scrolling sidewise makes it harder to read a thread.

I love to see the photos. Many are very good ... and illustrative.

With my available webspace atm there is no problem to upload them (more hassle to make site backups, but that is another matter...).
Resizing would be better, though sometimes details may be lost in that way. If it is better for the details, then either do not resize or (preferably) post separate images for the details.

The images I've seen so far didn't have to be that large if cropped properly.

By the way Paul. If you have enought webspace for images (rather heavy matter) why do you restrict the voluem of Diptera personal post box by 52 messages only?

Pictures are my responsibility but the PM boxes need to be cleaned by the members themselves. Unfortunately, I cannot assume that everyone will clean his/her box properly and that will clutter the database very much. If it were only the webspace...

I am new here, but I tried to attach my photos, tried using the img tags...I couldn't get a photo visibly into a ID request thread. I recently lost all of my photo files, except for what's stored on flickr, so that's where my photos were from. I don't know anything about codes and html, etc., so perhaps someone would have a tip about placing an image from either flickr or my hard drive to an ID request...?
Thank you.

The img tags only will work if you have the url to an image, not to the page where the image is displayed. So, using an url that does not end with .jpg or .gif (or similar) but rather with .html or .php (possibly with some code after that) will not show an image. If you download the picture to your local computer you can use the attachment feature that goes with the forum. Max one attachment per post, so if you want to have more images in one thread, you just reply to your own message. Please, note: an attached image will not show in preview because it is not uploaded until the actual message is posted in the forum.
