This larva is 13 mm long - one of the largest among cecidomyiids. It lives in fallen decayed trunks of larch in Tuva (Russia, the centre of Asia). Colour - light pink.

Do you have a cleared, slide mounted larva? If so what is the shape of the spatula, and the head capsule? The Catotricha genus is considered to be one of the oldest living genera of Cecidomyidae. This larva is of great taxonomic value.

Tried to attach an image to a forum post. jpg, 32kB, 72dpi, no blanks, ... File name is correctly displayed, but when I click "Preview Thread" it just vanishes. Help!
