Pipunculidae are really a difficult family. A lot of genital work. It is very difficult to draw any conclusion from a photo, really.

Well, using the keys of Skevington and of David Gibbs I have arrived at Cephalops for the genus. The propleural fan of hairs is clear under the scope though the photos don't show it. In David's Cephalops key it seems to come out to C. ultimus , though I have not done the genital preparation to confirm this, (and the yellow areas on the femora may be too extensive). I'd be grateful to know if the photos are consistent with this conclusion. |

I was indeed looking for the propleural fan. Sometimes it is so difficult to see because of the giant heads ;-)
