EDIT: was "Egg for ID" Anterior end of an egg, with larva inside, that was in my banana-bait trap. There were Muscid and Calliphorid adults in the trap. Is it possible to determine family? Also, are the 'protruding tubes' tracheae? Edited by Tony T on 16-11-2011 03:33 |

Yes, there were fruit flies in the cage as well as the others. But the egg is 3.5 mm long; too big for Drosophila? |

Then it might well be a fresh pupa! See for example: (http://www.psmicrographs.co.uk/male-fruit-fly-pupa--drosophila-melanogaster-/science-image/300333a) Edited by Paul Beuk on 12-10-2011 16:05 Paul - - - - Paul Beuk on https://diptera.info |

Wow, did I ever get that wrong. I saw maggots and assumed they were 1st instar blow flies; these I thought were eggs. Thanks Paul for a correct ID. |
