All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

I’d say a male Calliphora loewi, nice.
We need to see the wing base slightly from above, lateral or anterolateral. To establish the colour of basicosta.

Thanks, Theo. I had a look at the basicosta, it is black.

However, I understand that this species is more northerly distributed, so I assume it prefers colder (and moist?) environments. So I wonder if this species is to be expected in the city area of Vienna, where it is rather hot and dry...

It is probably overlooked.
In the Netherlands, records (just a few) are from September - October. When it is cold.....

I will gladly accept the ID :-)
Is C. vomitoria var. loewi a synonym?

No doubt synonym, though I have never seen this combination, pretty strange.
Probably very old (?).

Now found out, it comes from here:
http://ubio.org/b...ID=6616088

--> Calliphora vomitoria var. loewi Enderlein 1903

Well, I think this shows dumping all kind of names in a database is useless, unless one can verify its source. Probably / Possibly some old book was scanned and plundered for names.
In any case, This opinion ( of loewi not being a valid species) is rejected by all modern authors. Check Rognes “ Calliohoridae Scandinavica”

Carnifex
Yeah, this name was apparently imported from ubio.org into the database for inaturalist.org where the name now represents the species (or ssp. in this case). Will change this error.

Waldgeist pointed out that this one looks more like a Bellardia, so here are some additional images from the head and calypters

Now you mention it, the bluish colour seems to be an artifact of the light.
